Primarily, we are going to have a joint booth with daiyaku during cosfest this year. Pepakura (Paper Models) would be on display! Just look for our booth to glimpse(stare) at it. We also have a few artbooks that our sweatshop employees are working on. Details on that on a later date.

Well M.O.Y Cosplay Matsuri 2010 is another anticipated(well at least we are waiting for it) event. Discussions with the event organisers are well underway currently and there isn’t much information to reveal here.

Considering how I spent most of my time sitting behind the booth and playing Cave Story on the PSP because of commission works, etc. , I guess it’s about time I actually did something for this group.

Basically in EOY stuff happened, I just wasn’t there to see most of the stuff, but I just get this feeling that the NLB will never allow this event to happen in the future because of the conduct of the cosplayers. Not that I have anything against the event or Cosplayers or anything, but the whole place was being blocked by posing cosplayers and stuff.

I’m just glad as heck that one copy of my Black Rock Shooter print sold (which by the way, was Team Fortress 2′s Demoman). I was all “FINALLY! Someone with a sense of humor!!” and stuff.

And then another highlight of the event was probably a Suwako cosplayer buying from us quite a bunch of our Touhou goods. I was pretty sure that I’d pray to the Moriya Shrine when I go home, but it doesn’t exist and I’ll look more repulsive than I already do because I’d make people think I actually believe in make-belief.

SOY’B is next, though it’s mostly a resale of the stuff you see in EOY09. We’re probably going to come up with some new stuff anyway, so if we do get a booth, we’ll see you then. Once again, thanks for EOY09, eh.

For EOY 2009, they are doing something different. There’ll be no judges. The audience will be the only voters. You will decide who will be the winner for our solo and group cosplay competitions through SMS voting. Cosplay groups will win $1,500+ worth of cash vouchers from Kinokuniya, Black Alice, Pan in the Box and Lens Hub, as well as fragrance hampers from Luxasia. Trophies will also be awarded to winners.

Seems like they don’t know how to find anything else other than just pure music performances before 2pm in the afternoon. Of course we need to manage the booth, we’ll have to be there early in the morning, and hear an entire entourage of music songs that may be potentially sung by bad singers. Well, great to some people, very bad to others.

Next, the group cosplay lineup. Not a lot, only 4 groups, last year there’s around 6 or 7. I myself am intrigued as to who will be doing the IDOLM@STER cosplay, most likely its the same bunch that were there last year’s EOY as well as this year’s Cosfest. Of course, BakaNinja will probably take up this year’s EOY group performances by storm as well. “I mean, its NARUTO~, and they have loads of members and they cook up very good performances!” Okay, fine, the good performances part is quite true.

I am not sure how many people care about the event below, so i am just going to assume very few people, if i do make a mistake, do correct me.

I know that the main guy behind all this is the boss of Black Alice. But seriously, even if you are the main guy behind all this, its more important to think about how many people are actually interested in that fashion runway. Last i caught a glimpse of the fashion runways in AFA, i don’t think even half the seats got filled up. Well, i am not condemning you for advertising about your own event, that’s actually quite right, but branding it a major event is really quite uncalled for.

Well, if i turn out to be wrong and its a huge success, good for you, it lives up to its label as a major event. If not however, i would like to suggest of you to label it as a unique event, after all, that’s the only fashion runway show during EOY.

My Event advice for most:

If you come in the morning, and you won’t be staying in the main hall hearing music for almost 3 whole hours, it’ll be the best time to walk around and take a look at the booths. If you indeed are staying, then the next best time to walk around would be at around 5pm, where they are going to give out prizes and the closing address(which while is important, but the time can be spent on better stuff, especially if you are staying for the 3 hours of songs.)

The highlights of a cosplay event are always the cosplay competitions. You’ll be staying at the event area between 2 to 3.30. After that you have 1 hour and 10 mins until Makino Yui’s mini performance at 4.40, which many would be grateful for especially if they don’t have her concert tickets.

At 5.45, the day event will end, most will start packing up so be quick about exploring the booths before then. Yui’s autograph session would start as well so if you would like one, do rush to her area 10 to 15 minutes before it starts. The autograph session will end at 6.25. Which at this point, for those who won’t be going to Yui’s concert, can go home at this point.

If you finish your autograph session early you’ll have a load of time until the event venue opens, which is at 6.45. Go take a bite, you’ll need it, and definitely remember to empty your insides, you don’t want to be screaming for the restroom in the middle of her concert. Her concert will start at 7.10 and end at 8.40.

Her second autograph session will start at 9, with no stipulated ending time, so feel free to zerg rush for more autographs if you have to, but don’t take up her time for too long, she’ll most likely be flying back to Japan by Monday and needs a very good rest so that she can tour around Singapore for a bit on Sunday.

Selected bloggers are entitled to exclusive interviews with “special guests”. Of course it’s likely to be including Makino Yui as well because she’s a special guest. These bloggers will be contacted via email, and will be issued Media Passes “with chances for exclusive interviews with our VIP guests.”

We also took our shot at registering with them so as to get chances to interview these “special guests”. No confirmation right now as of yet, but if we land our big one, we’ll fish out a bigger one. We may even give chances to our members for such interviews.

Christmas is approaching in about 1 month. Thinking of receiving presents? Well, you can. Just make sure you come for the EOY the day after.

Inkspots is one of the new artgroups of the many in existence right now.  We still haven’t had a project started on, and more importantly, i don’t see anybody participating in the artwork showcasing in the EOY website.

Entities which had participated in this showcase will be Daiyaku and of course, CDS.  There are also many individual art submissions.

Just blindly quoting over here,

“EOY is truly a celebration for the fans, where talent is showcased and recognized. The EOY team has an avenue for talented artists to showcase their artwork to the community and contribute to the event. We hope that through EOY, talents will be recognized and appreciated for their works.EOY is now looking for artwork submissions to be showcased in our event banners, booklets (est. 3000 pieces) and website.

Nice stuff? You can try to go for it, though looking at the pieces over there, i doubt you can actually get a good piece done quickly, and furthermore, its less than 1 month to EOY, so their printing for the booklets should be done pretty soon.

Feel free to look through the artworks, comment on them, and learn from them. I have quite a few pieces i like myself, and some pieces i would want to trash.

*The page isn’t up yet, but this blog doesn’t pull their punches when it comes to critics. We are free to criticize anybody we want, and that’s our opinion. If you don’t like it that we are criticizing you, then too bad for you. Feel free to show your disdain though, we’ll leave it there.

Its VERY picture heavy though, so do take caution. So before i continue with that long charade of pictures, to summarize it up, its less than 30 days, i don’t expect anyone to submit a very good piece, but it’ll be good to be part of something to be proud of. I ain’t a good artist myself, so i can’t do much.

There’s still Dec, so i kinda hope some of us will be up there, but if they aren’t, that’s fine too.

EOY Dream – 0filia(Daiyaku)

The transclucent feel of this artwork immediately makes one focus onto the centre of the picture, which will be the face. The eyes will then unknowingly want to observe more, and so drifts off to the rest of the picture, as it starts to fade until nothingness. Truly a well-done “dreamy” piece of artwork.

Magnet – 0filia(Daiyaku)

Huge monochrome colour in this one. Exceptions will be the “butterfly headphone-like” objects that they are wearing, which is the main focus of this artwork. The huge eyelashes complements the monochrome colour, and along with the anime eyes and hair, shows an immense beauty in both characters. Not to mention their body proportions are right too.

Kannu – Guan Yu - Jiemi(Daiyaku)

Good representation and proportion. Glitter effects are okay, that is until a larger transclucent image of her was put into the back. Amazing linework too.

Maka Albarn - Jiemi(Daiyaku)

This would’ve been another one of the normal pieces. But if you’ve noticed Soul inside Maka’s scythe, maybe you’ll think a little differently. Representation of course is okay, shadows were there, and there’s that yellow outline. Could be improved on though.

The Pixie Queen – Jiemi(Daiyaku)

Dark background makes focus very easy. Also enhances the “shiny fairy/pixie” effect. Wings display a very alluring green in conjunction. Very good piece.

All Artworks from Ciel Yue

Pretty linear in style for all 3 pieces. Character in all pieces had a strong focus nearing his face due to the linework. 1st one was most well done in terms of shadows as well. Not to mention that the faint background graphics work a lot in helping the focus. However, his 3rd piece can do some improvement, the moon near the castle drifted the focus away from the character and its hard to see which is the main focus of the picture. Otherwise, very well done.

Artwork – Crystal Shard(CDS)

Good depiction on bed foldings and characters’ body proportions. Not much to be said about this one, but doesn’t have a very clear focus, though this is unnecessary for this kind of artwork. All in all, a good piece.

Artwork – CO2(CDS)

Huge contrast in background. One side’s light, other side’s dark. Focus on Little Red Riding Hood had a “move forward” sort of feeling. Shadows on her horse’s legs complements that attitude. Oh and of course the big bad wolf.

Artwork – Ling Goh

I assume that its a hand-drawn piece. If it is, extremely well done. If not, well, its still good, but not as good as being hand-drawn. Those dull colours had a chemistry with the lighter ones, and also good inking (wasn’t sure, but i think there was).

Artwork – BNN

After you’ve seen so many Black Rock Shooter artworks, you’ll probably know why they are good. Dark and sometimes monochrome backgrounds coupled with her huge contrast in garments in comparison to skin easily dignifies the focus. Furthermore, its easy to come up with dramatic positions such as this one because she’s sort of a fallen angel/heroine. And the flame’s awesome as usual.

Artwork – Kuridoki

Anybody thinking of an oppai mousepad? Well, i did. But there’s one thing that all oppai mousepads have when it comes to the art. As i’ve stressed in my comments earlier, its obviously the focus. First thing you look at an oppai mousepad’s 2 kinds of focus. First, the facial expression. Second, the chest. This one is vastly similar in this aspect, except the second focus(which is actually very small) would be the not-so-big EOY09 caption at the left.

That’s the good ones. What about the bad ones? They can be reserved for another post. This one’s long enough as it is.

As you all know, our very new and young artgroup will be hosting its debut there, and the works of our artists will be featured there as well, so this will be an important event to check us out there as well as to enjoy yourselves too!

Inkspots is an artgroup centred on traditional styles of drawings and illustrations, mainly on the anime/manga/comic style of art and illustration. We also believe in imparting our skills to others through various small meet-ups and small events that we organize.

Our aims are to be able to commission works for anyone, spread the word about manga illustration,  impart awareness on the anime/manga subculture, and impart our skills to anyone who wishes to learn genuinely.

We will accept any new members who are curious and willing to learn anything new. We will accept any form of expertise and help if you feel you can impart some small bits of help and advice to us. We are new, but we will also be very art centered and will try our best to commission an illustration if a commission order is placed.

With that, we thank you for stepping into our humble abode. We can provide but poor shelter, but rest assured, we will help and assist where we can.
